Change your opinion of going to the dentist

27th March, 2013

Does the thought of sitting in a dental chair terrify you? Don’t worry, you are not the only person to feel this way! Luckily for you, our team here at Parrock Street Dental and Implant Centre is geared up to help anxious patients to overcome their fear of the dentist in Kent. How do we do this? Led by principal dentist, Dr Rik Trivedi, our practice offers sedation and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere to put you right at ease.

Want to know more about sedation dentistry? When you feel anxiety or fear, your body produces a chemical known as adrenalin. To counteract this adrenalin-response in the body, a sedative is another type of chemical that can safely make you feel more at ease. The sedative creates this temporary relaxed state in the body that will wear off after a certain period of time.

We offer an intravenous, also called IV sedation, which is given through an injection in the back of your hand or in your arm. The amount of sedative that you are given will depend on the amount of treatment that you need and the length of time it will take to complete. The sedative works quickly once it’s in your bloodstream and will give you a deeply relaxed feeling, although you will still be awake and able to respond to the dentist. You will feel drowsy but you won’t fall asleep. Once the treatment is complete, the sedative will begin to wear off.

It is recommended that if you undergo dental sedation that you have a friend or family member drive you home afterwards. After the treatment it is advised that you rest for the remainder of the day, although you should feel minimal discomfort and be completely alert again.

Based in Gravesend, Kent, our practice has state-of-the-art equipment and is designed to give you the most comfortable and relaxing trip to the dentist you’ve ever had! Why not pay our practice a visit today to talk to one of our lovely team members about your teeth. Call us today on 01474 537191 to book your appointment.

What techniques can I use to calm myself for my dental appointment?

18th March, 2013

Feeling nervous about visiting the dentist in Kent? If you’re afraid of the dentist, it’s undoubtedly the last thing you want to do. But don’t panic! It’s best not to avoid dental visits as they’re important for your oral health and could make any existing problems worse. Instead, it’s recommended that you try some calming techniques to keep yourself relaxed during the appointment.

Some of the these techniques include monitoring your breathing and focusing on the positive sides of the dental visit. If you’ve always had a dental phobia, acknowledge that any previous bad experiences that happened to you were the result of fear and of being hurt.

Modern dentistry has moved on a lot and the focus is on making you the patient feel as relaxed and calm as possible so that your dental treatment is made easy. One of the ways in which this can be achieved is through the use of dental sedation in Kent. Intravenous or IV sedation is given by injection into either the back of the hand or into the arm.

Once administered into the bloodstream, you will feel drowsy and unaware of the treatment that’s taking place. At the same time you will also be able to co-operate with the dentist and what they’re telling you. Due to the side effects lasting for quite a while, it’s recommended that you bring a friend with you for support, or if you need a lift home afterwards.

Dr Rik Trivedi is the Principal Dentist at Parrock Street Dental and Implant Centre. He can treat nervous patients in Kent and put their mind at ease before undergoing dental treatment. As an experienced dentist and a NLP practitioner of dental anxiety and phobias, you can feel assured that you’ll feel relaxed and calm before your dental procedure.

If you’re looking for a gentle caring dentist, then please contact Parrock Street Dental and Implant Centre on 01474 537 191 to book an appointment. Our opening hours are Monday and Wednesday from 9am to 5pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 8pm, Friday from 9am to 3pm and Saturday from 9am to 2pm.

Why should I ask for dental sedation if I’m feeling nervous?

15th March, 2013

Do you suffer with a dental phobia? If you’re afraid of the dentist in Kent but yet don’t want to let your oral health be affected for the worse, dental sedation is one solution which can make receiving treatment easier than ever before.

You no longer have to worry about being in pain or the anxiety which can stem from this. Dental sedation in the form of intravenous sedation can relax and calm you to a level where the dentist can then start to give you dental treatment. Intravenous (IV) sedation is administered into your hand or the back of your arm. The effects are immediate and you will start to feel drowsy and go into a deep dream like state.

Under these effects, you will still be able to co-operate with the dentist, but when you wake up, you will be unaware of what happened during the dental treatment. After dental sedation the effects can take a while to wear off so it’s best to avoid driving home, drinking alcohol or operating machinery during this time.

Another form of dental sedation is inhalation sedation, where a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen known as ‘laughing gas’ is breathed in using a mouthpiece. The results are instant and you will experience a relaxed, pleasant feeling. There is no way to overdose on the gas as breathing in ordinary air means it quickly leaves the body. Within 15 minutes or so you will be able to drive a car and there are no lasting side effects, making it a safe and effective technique.

For nervous patients in Kent, we offer dental sedation alongside our treatments.  Our gentle caring dentist Dr Rik Trivedi is the Principal Dentist at Parrock Street Dental and Implant Centre. Rik is also an NLP practitioner of anxiety and phobias, so you will instantly be put at ease from the moment you walk into the practice.

If you want to know more about dental sedation, please give us a call on 01474 537 191 book an appointment. Our opening hours are Monday and Wednesday from 9am to 5pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 8pm, Friday from 9am to 3pm and Saturday from 9am to 2pm.

What can I do to ease my nerves before my appointment?

13th March, 2013

If you’re feeling nervous about going ahead with dental treatment because of your dental phobia – don’t cancel your appointment! It’s important to understand that there’s no need to be afraid of the dentist Kent. Avoiding your dental visit could prevent you from achieving optimum oral health.

Modern dentistry is highly advanced and uses a number of techniques to make nervous patients feel as relaxed and calm as possible. One of these methods is known as dental sedation.

Nervous patients in Kent should visit the Parrock Street Dental and Implant Centre, as we provide the intravenous or IV sedation which is given by injection and administered into your either the back of your hand or into your arm. There’s no need to worry either as it’s a controlled dose, meaning that you’re only given the amount needed to get you through the treatment comfortably.

Some of the side effects include drowsiness so you will feel completely calm and yet you will still be able to co-operate fully with the dentist in Kent. These effects will wear off after a while although your dentist will advise you how long it takes to clear out of your body. During this time you won’t be able to drive, drink or operate machinery, so it’s best to take a friend with you to give you a lift home after treatment.

Other methods which may help to relieve your nerves include inhalation sedation which offers a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen, i.e. laughing gas. When breathed in this mixture produces a relaxed and pleasant feeling, although you will be conscious throughout. This is a safe option as the laughing gas quickly leaves the body and it’s possible to drive 15 minutes after receiving treatment.

If you’re looking for a gentle caring dentist in Kent, Dr Rik Trivedi can help. As well as being a qualified dentist, he is also an NLP practitioner and has experience of treating dental phobia and anxiety. What kinds of dental sedation are available to calm my nerves?

4th March, 2013

Feeling nervous about visiting the dentist can be a thing of the past thanks to dental sedation. Don’t let your dental phobia get in the way of you receiving dental treatment and getting the healthy smile you’ve always wanted. Dentists in Kent usually use two forms of sedation and these include the IV intravenous sedation and inhalation sedation.

Intravenous sedation involves the use of an injection which is administered into the back of your hand or into your arm. The dose is controlled so you only need a certain amount to get the desired results. The side effects of IV sedation will make you feel drowsy and you will be completely unaware of any treatment going on, although you will be able to understand the dentist and co-operate with them.

Inhalation sedation can be offered which is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. When breathed in via a mouthpiece, you will feel a relaxed and pleasant feeling. Your dentist will put you at ease by talking to you softly and asking you how you feel throughout the treatment. It’s not possible to overdose on the gas as this mixture leaves the body quickly, usually within one or two breaths of air. You will experience no after-effects as within 15 minutes you will feel back to normal.

If you’re afraid of the dentist, dental sedation can help. Our gentle caringdentist Dr Rik Trivedi is also an NLP practitioner with experience in treating dental anxiety and phobias. He can use the above dental sedation techniques to provide you with a smooth and relaxing dental treatment. As the Principal Dentist at Parrock Street Dental and Implant Centre, Rik can enhance your smile while you simply relax.

The tooth is numbed, cleaned and shaped, keeping as much of your healthy tooth as possible. A special powder is sprayed on the teeth and a picture taken. A 3-D image of the teeth then appears on the computer. The dentist then custom designs your new CEREC exactly for the best results. Once complete a button is pressed.

The computer is linked wirelessly to a milling machine, which will then make your CEREC exactly to the design in approximately 20 minutes.

The CEREC is then conditioned and bonded permanently to your tooth.

All this while you are comfortably entertained by our in chair DVD system!
